Look Out Harley, The British Are Coming!

It looks like Harley-Davidson is going to need to keep their guard up because Triumph is delivering a Hail-Mary to the American cruiser market! At last, the 2010 Triumph Thunderbird 1600cc is upon us! This beautiful beast will be released in 2009! Despite the Rocket III's success, Triumph decided to aim for the knock-out punch with a new cruiser that will have modern styling and plenty of displacement to ride among the Hogs. The Rocket III has been a major hit for those who thrive on raw torque and white-knuckle acceleration in a massive cruiser package, but can easily be too much power and weight for an average cruiser rider. With beautiful lines and styling the Thunderbird is a direct hit to the U.S. cruiser market.

The Thunderbird comes with an all-new 1600cc parallel twin engine and a six-speed transmission that will provide lots of smooth power and torque. The motor is said to put down around 100bhp and 115ft/lbs of torque, which is impressive compared to most Harleys. Also unique about the Thunderbird is a new belt drive system. For all of you Triumph America and Speedmaster owners who have been researching a belt drive conversion kit, look no further! The Thunderbird 1600 may be your answer!

There are some style options for the Thunderbird: bare-boned, chromed-up, or fully dressed. You can get any of these in an ABS or non-ABS model. These options will give the Thunderbird individuality among other cruisers. Since Triumph is also known for having high quality motorcycle accessories, a Thunderbird owner will be able to customize this beautiful cruiser to their liking.

The affordable price tag will be icing on the cake compared to many American-made cruisers. The Thunderbird will be a big step in power over the America and Speedmaster, but a small step in price while still remaining well-under the Rocket III price tag. If you are looking for Triumph quality and sleek design in a powerful cruiser package, then the 2010 Thunderbird 1600 is definitely for you!
